In Urdu, "Hauz" means a water tank or lake, and "khas" means royal. So, the name translates as the royal tank or lake and the place blends history with nature. The lake dates back to the 13th century and was created to provide water to the Siri Fort. Constructed during the rule of Alauddin Khilji, the tank was known as Hauz-i-Alai at that time. After it was clogged and silted, the water reservoir was excavated again in the 14th century during the reign of Firoz Shah Tughlaq. Several structures like a pavilion, tomb, madrasa, and mosque bused to overlook the tank. Currently, it is a well-known attraction to both Indian and international tourists and is therefore surrounded by various budget hotels, cafés, and restaurants. Lying in northern Delhi, this is the right place for some relaxing me-time or couple-time or fun a family picnic on a weekend. You can even enjoy boat rides here. While boating, you can behold the longest green belt of Delhi encompassing the 65-acre lake. On the way, you can spot birds like egrets and storks, drinking from the lake or swimming in it. Alongside the water body, there is the famous E-O-D Adventure Park. You can visit the park for some entertainment ranging from beach volleyball, archery, and treetop obstacle courses to exploring the Jungle House.
